STAY AWAY!!!!
As a tourist in the midst of a sea of Japanese tourists who flock here every year, Banff offers plenty of sushi restaurants to cater to these folks and other sushi lovers. My boyfriend and I took a 3 day trip to Banff earlier this month and stumbled upon this restaurant upon the advice of a lone Japanese salesperson working in a jewelery store. The trouble started when she told us the name of the restaurant was 'Sushi Train' and it was nowhere to be found. We soon discovered (after stopping to ask again for directions) that the sushi restaurant we kept passing had a train going around it, carrying a-la-carte sushi--and it was called Sushi House. Being sushi experts, we should've known to have walked right out as soon as we saw the train carrying sushi around, but we were hungry and sat down. A Japanese woman chef stood in the middle of the train going around her as she prepared sushi to place on the train carts. She couldn't answer us when we asked where she was trained and the rolls were meager in relation to the price. They were prepared hastily. The dynamite roll was the worst off. We also had saba nigiri and gyoza (another mistake!). When we were done, we were in disbelief to get a bill for $50 before tip. We learned an important lesson that day--just because we are being served by an all-Japanese staff doesn't necessarily mean the sushi is going to be good. The only reason this place still exists is because of passing tourists who flock here only once, not knowing where to get good sushi.
