Japonais Bistro is to create the Japanese dining experience to fit the lifestyle and feel of our city. This meant to provide a high-energy, aesthetically contemporary environment, inventive Japanese food, lively music and staff in love with the idea of serving their guests.
This Japanese restaurant and sake bar is located on Jasper Avenue. Their name, which means “Japanese” in French, hints at their tendency to fuse traditional Japanese dishes with other types of cuisine, including North American and European. They have a big sake menu, so the best option is to go for the sake sampler flight, which is three samples of premium sake. They serve popular choices, such as the Momokawa Pearl Nigori.
Allow the chefs to serve you the absolute freshest ingredients by ordering the omakaze platter. If you go for lunch, you can try it for almost a quarter of the dinner price, but go early because quantities are limited. Other standout dishes are the wild salmon carpaccio, the chef’s choice sushi and the new style sashimi. It’s not healthy, but I have to mention it — if you have room for dessert, go for the green tea crème brulee.
Known for their great bento box lunches, Japonais Bistroalso has a great menu for a hearty dinner, especially if you like soft shell crab burgers, yellowtail swimming in ponzu sauce or tightly packed maki rolls, filled with traditional faves, such as salmon, spicy tuna or avocado. The dimly lit space is cozy but not cramped, and the menu is so big that even the pickiest of eaters will find something they love – as long as they are willing to try their Japanese cuisine with a French twist.
