When asked about her path into interior design, Sarah Marie Lackey recalls how, when she was younger, she spent a lot of time reorganizing and decorating her bedroom, but had no idea it was something that she could actually turn into a career. Her light bulb moment came, as it were, when she went to enroll in the Art Institute of Vancouver to be a fashion designer and saw that they also offered a program in interior design.
She quickly shifted course and, after graduating, set about launching her career. She knew, though, that there were two hurdles she’d have to overcome. The first, she explains: “School doesn’t really prepare you for reality.” The second was convincing people to hire her when her portfolio consisted only of school projects.
Sarah is an excellent designer! We reviewed her plans on a Vancouver Gastown condo renovation project. I recommend Sarah Marie Interiors and we look forward to working them in the future!
