When we are travelling near or thru Brockville we always stop at the Brockberry. Great small restaurant and we are always happy with our meal.
The Brockberry Café has catered a number of events that I’ve both planned and attended. From small networking events of 50 people to large-scale events with plated dinner for over 250 guests. Brockberry staff is friendly, flexible, professional, and knowledgeable. Aside from the exceptional service, the food quality is also outstanding. I would highly recommend Josie, Seth and the rest of the Brockberry team for any catering event big or small.
First at this restaurant and shall not be my last. Went there with a group of friend, we were at Brockville camping for the weekend and decided to go there for an early lunch Sunday. The service was excellent, my coffee was never empty and the from the time we ordered to the time the food came was quick considering its made fresh. The Atmosphere was awesome, inside or outside. Lots to pick from on the menu! It was worth the 4.5 hour drive up there just for this place. Great place!!! I can't say anything bad about it at all. On the side note I had poutine before but this poutine came with coleslaw on top and wow this was good 5/5 stars!!!!
My daughter has Celiac's and it makes it extremely difficult for her to have meals outside of the home. We went to the Brockberry for a mother / daughter evening with the understanding that she would eat Salad per usual, as this its about the only item that she can eat, that is NOT prepared with wheat/oats etc. Upon our arrival I spoke to Jennifer, our server, and explained what Celiac's is and was there anyway something could be done so she would be able to eat something off the menu. Jennifer went out of her way to ensure that my daughters meal was prepared separately and did not come in contact with ANYTHING off the list we gave her. Jennifer even took the extra step to place my bread and meal away from hers on the table. I can not say enough about the service and meal. My daughter enjoyed her meal so much and for me as a parent to be able to actually go out to a restuarant with her and enjoy a meal is no easy task. So I wish to thank Jennifer and The Brockberry for an amazing evening. I would certainly recommend to everyone to stop by and enjoy.
Our only previous experience here was for a family reunion. My well-travelled cousins all agreed this was a great choice for food and atmosphere. So we once again turned to Josie and Seth when selecting a caterer/chef to bring in a special meal for a spring visit with Dad, who is now a resident at St Lawrewnce Lodge (long-term care). Dad is less mobile now, and has access to a room overlooking the St Lawrence, so it was worth a try. My wife joined us on this occasion, having missed out on the reunion and eager to try the food for herself. Josie made two trips from the restaurant to our reserved room at StL Lodge, first with the salad, then a bit later with entrees and dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal as we watched the sun light the houses on the distant shore. We finished in time to return the dishes before the restaurant closed - there was no need to have her wait for us as we are just down the road. The food was fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. We paid a little extra to have fresh linens put on our table, a nice touch I highly recommend to anyone using a facility like ours. Josie was on time with both courses, and served us efficiently and graciously, like you would expect from a professional. The only thing I might change next time is to order a bit less food. The portions are very generous, far more than Dad would normally eat and all we could handle as well. But it was fun to share, especially with such a good variety.
The look of the cafe from the street caught our attention - it was evening and the place looked very inviting. When we arrived we saw a table that we wanted but had been told it was "reserved" and were then seated in the center of the room. Later we noticed the reserved table was not reserved - the hostess was in error because the very next two people who came in wanted that table and got it. I heard the staff saying: "It's reserved right? Someone replied, "No it's not." Next, we ordered the soup of the day which was a lamb mulligatawny which was wonderful and the only reason I give this cafe three stars. We ordered the prime rib for the main course and it failed miserably. It was barely warm, the "au jus" matched the pale effort of the prime rib severing. The au jus was nearly tasteless. Nary have I ever tasted a more bland gravy. I would have thought the chef had the night off, but from the other revues it is clear that the hit and miss of the Brockberry cafe food is the norm. We paid over $80 dollars for the meal and it did not come close to the value. We will not be chancing that chef again. I suggest the chef give up all things but soup - that is one dish the chef excels at.
We gave downtown Brockville's Brockberry Café a try for lunch on our recent May long weekend trip from Toronto to Montreal. Briefly, it's acceptable, but a little pricey for the quality we experienced. The dining room is clean, bright and overlooks the city's main street. We ordered two Beau's lagered ales, the superb local product of Eastern Ontario. Our server went to check, returned, and reported they did not carry it, so we both had a small draught of Wellington County Ale. We both had the recommended $12 Crepe Neptune that came with a choice of sides. My wife chose the lettuce salad and I just had to try the soup of the day, Pork with Cauliflower and Broccoli. The single crepe was slightly disappointing, filled mostly with surimi, or "crab select" according to the menu, accompanied by a few tiny shrimp and 3 bay scallops in a bland béchamel sauce. However, the soup was novel and well crafted with ample cubes of lean cubes of pork and lots of tasty cauliflower and broccoli that had not given up their flavors to the light stock. The salad was just OK. As she was clearing our plates our server informed us that they did indeed have Beau's beer on draught and asked if we wanted some now. We declined. I always thought servers were trained to check before every shift to learn of any new items that may have been added. In all, we will probably try here again on our next trip, but be a little more careful in what we order.
It's not easy to keep the quality up but this restaurant sure seemed to. Nice touches were the extra fresh salads (no brown leaves at all), home made croutons, real shaved Parmesan cheese. Add in fresh biscuits in lieu of bread. Main courses were small to well portioned, except for the Pad Thai which was a huge portion. Desserts were all fresh and yummy. Pricing was very good. Where can you get an excellent restaurant Cappuccino for less than $3.50? Or an expresso for $2.50? Definitely heading back there again soon.
We had our wedding ceremony & dinner at the Brockberry, right from step one of planning we were greeted with a warm welcome. The atmosphere, food and service was top notch & the suite was the perfect setting for our wedding night. Hats off Josie & Seth we thank you and the staff(Lori) for a job well done for making our wedding memorable. See you soon. Cheers Rodney & Denise Prosser
I have eaten at the Brockberry on numerous occasions and it is now my #1 choice for entertaining my corporate clientele. The food is always excellent, lunches, dinners and outside catering (Chamber of Commerce, DBIA and Special Occasion events), and the service is professional. I have introduced many new clients to the Brockberry who have returned many times due to their positive first experience.
The food was great!! It was my mother's birthday and Seth took care of getting the cake, it was wonderful. Our waitress was also great. We ordered the special of salmon and the pork loin, and also the fish and chips. Nothing but really good thing to say. We had a great time.
My husband and I had our our wedding reception for 48 adults and 6 children at the Brockberry Cafe on Sept 13/08. We had munchies and cocktails on the patio and dinner in the very elegantly decorated dining room. All were fabulous! The staff was very professional and helpful. It was a very intimate and enjoyable evening. A great time had by all! Thanks to Josi and Seth for a memorable evening! Also, the entertainment provided by Les Picard was superb!! If you have a chance to hear him play you won't be dissappointed!
We have frequently eaten at the Brockberry Cafe and it has always been lovely. I like the sun room during the day and the beautiful historic rooms in the back at night. The food has always been wonderful and the staff is friendly and courtious. Pot stickers and Caesar salad are aways a must -- I even get cravings for them. We've never been rushed out, even on a busy night. We've always felt welcome to just sit, have a drink, and enjoy our evening out. If you want a restaurant that truly combines all that Brockville has to offer -- charm, history, and good food -- then the Brockberry Cafe is a must.
terrible experience. too bad i had heard that the food used to be good here
I read these reviews and I wonder if we are talking about the same Brockberry. My husband and I have eaten there three times now and all three times we were very disappointed. First of all we found the dining room not very clean, we were seated in the corner on one occasion and while the baseboards are big old wood ones, they were very, very dirty. The chalk board had been written over so many times but not cleaned so it looked tacky. The service is so, so, the waitresses could use some professional training, such as how to serve, how to clear, what to clear, etc. Lastly, the food we had was terrible. One on occasion I had the chicken and it was literally burnt on the bottom and so dry I could not eat it. I showed it to the waitress and she knew I did not eat it but did not offer anything in compensation, and she charged me for it. I did not bother to argue because I knew it would be my last time there. And atmoshere......I don't know but I don't see any.
I have eaten at the Brockberry on more occasions than I can count. The food is always excellent, the service impeccable, the prices really reasonable. If someone asks for a place to eat I always recommend the Brockberry. You are never disappointed.
Since new ownership in 2005 I can't say enough good things about my Brockberry experiences. The food is very good with the Neptune bake and Seafood Crepes being my favs and the Spring Rolls are great as well. This is my new favorite spot to get gift certificates for friends and family on their birthdays and anniversaries!
I have enjoyed every meal I have had at the Brockberry Cafe. Their menu is inventive, their dishes fresh and crisp and absolutely tasty. Nothing bland or forgettable.
The meal was delicious and the presentation was wonderful. Every guest enjoyed the meal. This is the second time that I have had Seth cater a larger sit down dinner party and we are never disappointed! The cost of the meal and service are also very reasonable!
Overall the Brockberry is a good restaurant, and I will visit again.
