I stopped at the bakery looking for bread before Thanksgiving. What I bought was a delicious apple strudel. It was too big for company so we had a couple of slices..... delicious. My husband commented that the apples should have been peeled. I loved it as it was. It was full of apples and currants and I detected a bit of orange flavour. Make it again!
Let's start with decor. I walk in to see un-refrigerated pastry cases, loaded with pre-packaged deserts that should be refrigerated. The holes in the 60's era floor were really endearing; as were the stains in the 50's era ceiling tiles. The sun faded display wedding cake in the over-filled window should have warned me off, but I was silly. I made the mistake of ordering an egg salad sandwich and some pasta salad to go. The pasta was under cooked and the dressing was bottled. Half-way through my sandwich a ball of rancid grease made it's appearance and I threw it all away in horror. I didn't even get past one bite of the apple pie - the filling tasted like Vaseline. Lucky for me, no food poisoning.....yet. They should get a new health inspector.
The food is great, the service is always friendly...
The food is great, the service is always friendly & the ladies couldn't be any more helpful. They are always happy & smiling. The Dutch Oven makes the best cakes & cookies and if you're ever looking from some fantastic Empire Cookies, the Dutch Oven is place to go, but call ahead, they don't make them every day. The birthday cakes are tasty and not overly sweet.
GREAT JOB LADIES!
