This has always been one of my favourite restaurants. It was a warm, friendly atmosphere with a friendly staff (and i love the fun murals). Having travelled around the globe, I have yet to find better authentic Mexican food. The cheese soup is my absolute favourite! I also love the ships and salsa - delicious! Portions are also a good size and I would say it is excellent value for money. Whenever we have friends in from out of town - this is where we take them!

We went in for lunch on a weekday. It was pretty dead but the dining room is interesting enough on its own. I particularly like that there is a Mexican peasant theme which also features tacky flat-screens playing only menu specials on a loop. I doubt Pancho Villa watched his flat-screen while mashing down tacos. Anyway the server was nice and refilled my Coke. We each had a burrito (1 Chicken, 1 Vegetarian). I love a good burrito but sadly these were lacking flavor. There was no rice in the burrito which I found strange. I want to like this place and return often but it just wasn't that good. On the plus side the burritos came with rice and refried beans. The rice was nice and the beans were good but had some celery in the mix and some really don't like that. Also right after we ordered the server brought over a bucket of hot, tasty tortilla chips and salsa. They were good and really did add value to the visit.

When we first moved to the city a few years ago...

When we first moved to the city a few years ago we went here, and the first time - great service great food. Since then we've been twice and its been HORRIBLE. The second time was so bad we didn't go back until now, and that was at least 2 years ago. I thought we should give it another chance. First, no host at the entry to seat you, had to wait. We get seated and the waitress comes right over for our drink order but takes 10 minutes to bring our drinks, if not more. Says she'll be right back to get our order and at least 10 minutes go by before she does. The chips and salsa? The chips were stale. We placed our order and when it came out, the plates had drips on the edges and were dirty and gross. When I worked in a restaurant we were taught NEVER to send out plates with drips on the edges. The presentation is disgusting! The chicken in the enchiladas was terrible, it tasted like a bag of store bought already cut up chicken that had been microwaved (and the plates looked microwaved). The beans and rice was not heated evenly, and there was a huge chunk of dried mashed beans in my beans, I couldn't even cut through it with the knife! The rice was overcooked and gross. The enchiladas were supposed to have tomatoes, onions and sour cream and there was barely of any of those - just gross chicken. The tortillas were gross and had fallen apart, and not in a good way. The burrito my husband had had beans in the middle and spicy beef on the outsides. How is that supposed to taste good? Spicy, but no flavour. We were not offered a desert menu, not that we wanted any after the terrible meal. The waitress took over 10 minutes to clear our dirty dishes (and other staff walked by and left it - even the owner! - at least I think it was from the commercials) and then another 10 minutes or more to bring our bill. Then she left the machine on the table and I had to search for my own pen to sign the slip before she finally came back. Terrible service. She didn't deserve the tip we gave her and they didn't deserve half the price for the terrible food. The atmosphere? Dirty gross pillows on the benches and dirty blankets hanging between that look like that haven't been washed since the place opened! We will NEVER go back, and we'll make sure everyone who asks knows why. This place is terrible. Its reflected in the fact that there was no wait for a table at 6pm on a friday night. Total waste of my hard earned money.

We go to this restaurant about once a month or more. We love the cheese soup and the complimentary chips and salsa (lots of garlic)! Our most recent visit had pretty pathetic service, but we don't usually have a problem. We always have to finish off with the "deep fried" ice cream...yum!
