Two recent dinners at the Newmarket Keg were both great experiences. The food was amazing, steaks and prime rib very tender and tasty. Great friendly service, even in the Mother's Day rush. The old reviews for this restaurant , from 2012, are now totally inaccurate. I understand that new management has been doing a great job for a couple of years now.
I've had take-out about six times and it was getting consistantly worse. They absolutly ruined our xmas eve dinner which was my last and final time, but maybe it was my fault for ordering at 3:30 pm. The mushrooms were cold and tasteless and the garlic mashed were like glue and obviously left over from the day before. I called them right away to complain and thats when the lip service started, I was told the manager would call me which he never did. When I called the manager Tim, he supposedly never recieved my complaint, but took my information and said he would send me something. That something never came which is OK because I won't be back.
The management has learned the benefit of team service to make things go smoothly without the client feeling rushed. We were served by four different people including the manager. This meant our food was fresh made - hot where it was supposed to be hot and timely. we have been using this chain for over thirty years - since Crock and Block time and know what we want before we even get there. We always order from the classic menu - giving a full course meal for a decent price. My top sirloin with caesar and twice baked potato was great. Unfortunately, my table partner found her teriyaki steak too salty, even though she has been ordering it for years. All in all, this place gets a top rating - having improved through the years since it started on Davis Drive in a ridiculous location.
caesar salad is to die for, filet mignon is always delicious and full of flavour, average wine list with a lot of decently priced bottles, and wonderful desserts. will go back again and again. atmosphere is dark and romantic yet great for friendly gatherings.
Everything was great. We went in and waited for 45 minutes for a table. Sat at the bar and had a few cocktails. Very friendly staff. Finally table was available and food and service was great. I would recommend this place for a great evening of good food and helpful, kind staff.
Consistently good food, good service and nice, relaxing atmosphere. This is one of my regular weekend spots. Tasty steaks, cooked as I like it. Well-done side dishes, including veggies (which are so often over-cooked elsewhere). I've never had an issue that wasn't rectified at the Keg.
We arrived at 6:10 P.M. and were told the wait was 25-35 minutes. We were seated in just over 20 minutes which was pretty good considering most places sometimes push you beyond the promised wait time. Our waiter, came by fairly quickly and took our drink order and brought it back. Then two minutes later came back to take our dinner order. Within five minutes of ordering he swung back to to drop off the ceasar salads and freshly baked bread. The bread was delicious, the only complaint was one of the salads only had one cruton whereas the other had six. The other issue was someone forgot to drop off cutlery. Our waiter was quick to rectify the cutlery issue when we brough it to his attention. The steak came both came served with potatoes and grilled vegetables and tasted excellent. I had the baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits and my wife the mashed with bacon bits. Both potato dishes were well done. Overall the Keg is a great place to eat when looking for good steak. At the end our waiter had a large table but a manager took care of retreiving the bill and clearing the table. No sweat with the service at this place everyone appears to help wherever there seems to be a need.
The steak was good. I agree that for the price they serve a really good steak at The Keg. The ribeye was deliious and the brows were just right. we had wine which was a little expensive but not too much. My hubbie commented about the girls not being very attractive but one of the male servers had a very cute smile. I win this time.
The Keg continues to offer up a great steak dinner. Cooks always get my steak right, which is rare at most places. The meal sizes are just right - and the sourdough bread to start the meal continues to be a favourite. Service is typically with a smiling friendly server who moves quickly enough to make you feel your order is important. Very rare to have a bad experience at the Keg in Newmarket. The only problem with the Keg is its popularity - it's hard to get in and wait times are often too much to bear.
Great food would recomend for friends and family. The service messed up my order and gave it to the people across from us and when i told her this she gave me a warm free beer ( i dont like warm beer). The atmoshpere was good and the location was great.
I had a poor experience in the bar a few weeks prior, but my last visit was pretty much perfect. I don't recall our waiter's name, but he was one of the best servers I've ever seen: very friendly, always there at the right moment to top up our wine and waters, tried upselling at every opportunity, but was not pushy. The onion chipotle sirloin was the best steak I've had in years. Highly recommended!
My boyfriend and I have been to our fair share of Kegs but this Keg is by far the best overall...we go here about twice a month and just love every minute of it. The one and only time we weren't happy with the service, we received a $50 gift certificate in the mail!! The food is amazing, the keg if our all time favourite restaurant to eat at and the Newmarket location is our favourite one. The table bread is amazing, warm and always an experience on its own. The Mushrooms Neptune is the best thing known to man! The Chipotle Onion Sirloin is a new dish to me that I tried the other day and boy does it meet my standards and beyond!! Go to the keg, you will never ever regret it!!
Great dinner Saturday night - no wait - food was great - service even better - my steak was over cooked and they had another one out to me in minutes more to my liking. You have to try the twiced baked potato! Great night - service outstanding - all enough to impress the in-laws who were in from the U.S.
I always enjoy the Keg and the food and service are usually top notch - but why do they have a policy on no reservations on weekends. Do they really expect me to believe that they can seat people better by just having them all show up a once? Take a reservation like a real restaurant so that people don't have to wait half an hour to forty five minutes to be seated and can get on with their lives. Wouldn't it be better for everyone? Kitchen, servers and even, just maybe, the patrons too?
I've always loved the Keg and have never had a bad experience. A really awesome steak to try is the Sirloin Oscar! MMMMMMMMMMMMM

We didn't have reservations so we had to wait 30 mins to be seated. It was ok, we just sat at the bar and had a drink before dinner. Originally they told us that it would be a 20 minute wait, we didn't find the extra 10 minutes that they went over a problem but once seated the manager came to our table and apologized for going over the time. He offered us free appetizers which he didn't have to do but we really appreciated it. Considering the other options in Newmarket for dining, this is the best place to eat...great atmosphere, terrific staff and excellent food! Enjoy!
it was disgusting. My steak and mushrooms were WAY over cooked.. med rare does done mean med well. Worst keg ever.
We hd to wait over an hour to get our food (waiter said there was a mix up with placing the order). When my meal arrived, I noticed what looked like sauerkraut on top. It was supposed to be fried onions. They had been "cooked" in cold grease and turned out to be just a slimy mound on my plate. The potatoes were cold and dry. I told the waiter, and he offer free desserts. This was my first trip to the Keg (although we live on Green Lane not 5 minutes away). I would certainly not be anxious to go back.
The atmosphere, the food, the service, it was all great!! We had to wait for a table, but we sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of the bartenders and the incredible drinks. The bill was over $100 for the two of us, but as far as i am concerned, it was worth every cent!
