Mike Lorish and his wife Jean spent many of their vacations in bed and breakfasts, so when the opportunity came up to open their own, they decided to give it a try. Now, years later, they still love hosting guests. “We’ve been to different B&Bs all over the world and enjoyed them,” Mike says. “So when the kids moved out of the house, we decided to convert the spare rooms into suites. It started out as a way to see what the experience would be like. It’s been enjoyable for us and our clients, so we decided to continue.”
Mike also believes his B&B, Heath Haven Bed & Breakfast, is filling a need for Port Perry, a town with plenty of annual tourists but little in the way of conveniently located accommodation. “Before we opened, it was hard for people to find somewhere local to stay,” Mike says. “Most of the traditional lodgings are on the highway, but we’re just walking distance from the beautiful downtown, which a lot of our clients really appreciate.”
