Meet the owner

Yan Di was about to write a midterm at Seneca College for a financial planning course when she realized that she had forgotten her pencil case at home. So Yan hurried to the campus bookstore to pick up a last-minute writing utensil. “I bought a mechanical pencil and it was about seven dollars,” Yan remembers. “No design – no nothing!”

The plain pencil stood in contrast to Yan’s collection of fun stationery decorated with her favourite anime characters and fanciful prints, purchased from China and Korea. The collection often garnered compliments from her Seneca classmates. “Everyone was like ‘Oh, this is so cute! Where did you get this?’” she remembers.

So Yan thought about how she could introduce her favourite stationery items to the city. The result was Mr. Pen, which opened in Koreatown in the summer of 2013.

I am very disappointed with a product in the store. Today, I bought a set of chopsticks, a spoon and a container. I opened the package when I got home and I found that the chopsticks DO NOT use for picking up food as the regular chopsticks do. The end of the chopsticks has a big gap about 3 to 4 millimeters. The manager did not give me the refund and she said that it was her store policies. I am hopping that the owner will review the policies in the case of defective products.
