Café Falco

Nestled in the midst of Mile End warehouses filled with start-ups, Café Falco is known as the neighbourhood's best kept secret. Though the café is barely visible from the outside, once inside it is impossible not to be blown away by its décor and atmosphere. With its refined yet individualistic look that combines straight concrete lines with the warm contours of vintage wooden furniture, Falco effortlessly stands out among the third-wave cafés that have sprung up around the city.

Opened in 2010 by an artist couple hailing from France and Japan, Café Falco immediately distinguished itself thanks to its signature Japanese cuisine. Instead of following the traditional route and serving sushi or ramen, the owners wanted to offer Japanese street food dishes, ideal for the ebb and flow of workers and the students in the neighbourhood who come here to work. "People appreciate the quick service. They order and it takes longer to complete that transaction than to receive the food. It's street food, so you order your sandwich and then it's ready!" says co-owner Jérôme Mandel.
