First opened in 2007, Ramen-Ya started as an outlet for traditional style ramen soups. “We had the good fortune to start this place before ramen really became a trendy pick in Montreal and elsewhere,” says Philippe Truong, who owns and operates the restaurant six days per week with his wife Sonia. Philippe’s family had a great deal of experience in the Montreal restaurant scene, but their choice to start Ramen-Ya came from a personal realization, “We were close to it—this was the kind of food we prepared for our children and we were passionate about it. With good luck we grew fast and people started asking if we would try doing different things, so we expanded our menu and space in early 2013. When people ask you to prepare more food for them, you know you’re doing something right!”
