You needn’t be living the student life to want to eat inexpensively around the Concordia campus. Whether you're passing through the downtown core, a devoted fan of genre cinema queuing for Fantasia Festival, or simply on a lunch break, here are a few places where you can eat fast and well. Boustan is a Montreal staple. You’ll find many a Concordia student (even McGill students sometimes take the trip) flocking to Boustan on Crescent and de Masionneuve for their delicious shawarma sandwiches. Enjoy while on a study break or after a night out at Reggie’s, the Concordia student bar. The place is popular, so expect a line that may go out the door, but moves very quickly.
Known for its falafel, Restaurant Nilufar serves Middle Eastern cuisine at very affordable prices. Where else can you indulge in a shish taouk sandwich with soup and a drink for five bucks? All meals here are Halal, with many vegan options.
For good Chinese food at a great price, try Nouilles Star. The food is tasty, authentic and best of all, cheap. From general Tao to chicken fried rice to their noodle soups, you're certain to fill your belly before a late night study session. The service is also quick, which is appreciated when you need a quick bite between classes.
This no-frills restaurant serves some of the best Indian food in Montreal. Most meals are under $10, with the butter chicken and lamb curry being particularly noteworthy. A Shaughnessy Village favourite, Thali also serves many vegetarian options and prepped meals to take home for those late-night cravings.
Al-Taib is a Lebanese bakery serving fresh Middle Eastern food, and excellent pizzas. Try the manakish, a type of flat-bread sandwich. Open 24/7, this fast-food joint also offer free delivery.
Their Mackay Street location awaits you with its entirely vegan and organic menu. You can enjoy pita or half-pita sandwiches for under $10 (including falafel, BBQ tofu, tempeh or veggie pâté); soups and salads at decent prices; and some appealing sides including sweet potato fries!
This Japanese noodle chain offers seasonal menus and a lunch menu. The ramen bowls already contain noodles, miso sauce, pork broth, cabbage, soy sprouts and bamboo shoots. It's up to you to add egg, fried tofu, shrimps and more.
It's a short stroll south from Sainte-Catherine Street West to get to their downtown location. Featured on the menu are invigorating tempeh bowls, smoked tofu, teriyaki shitake mushrooms served on brown rice, quinoa, noodles or mixed lettuce. They also serve black bean, mushroom or beet burgers. Sandwiches, chillies, soups... it's all there, prepared fast and efficiently!
