As the temperature cools down in Calgary and we enter the fall, theatre season is just heating up – so zip up your boots and head out to some spectacular shows. The city’s performances are some of the best in the country and a must-see experience for Calgarians and travellers alike – here are some of the shows worth watching until the end of 2017. The Last Wife

Presented by Alberta Theatre Projects, The Last Wife is a riveting performance based on King Henry VIII’s last wife, Katherine Parr, who changed the monarchy forever – but did she keep her head? This two-hour show is certain to keep your undivided attention and promises to give you a renewed appreciation for good politics and a great theatre performance. The show plays Sept. 12 to 30.

The Christians

It's a normal day for Pastor Paul as he prepares to deliver a sermon to the congregation – and with it, he plans to deliver some news. It's good news, but not what the congregation is used to hearing. How will they take it? Drive a quick hour east of Calgary to Rosebud Theatre and find out during the production of The Christians, scheduled Sept. 22 to Oct. 28. The show includes a hearty buffet hosted by students of Rosebud School of the Arts.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change

If that title isn’t reason enough to watch the show, know that an evening at Stage West includes an extravagant buffet and countless dessert trays on the menu. I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is a hilarious take on relationships and takes on everything from the intricacies of dating to waiting to be married to newborns and in-laws. The show runs from Sept. 8 to Nov. 12.

Sisters: The Belles Soeurs Musical

Germaine Lauzon is a working class housewife in 1960s Montreal and has just come into a large windfall in the form of one million trading stamps. But the jackpot brings with it unexpected consequences. Catch this fabulous Canadian musical about the dreams and jealousies of these Montreal women. Sisters: The Belles Soeurs Musical runs at Theatre Calgary Oct. 10 to Nov. 4.

The 39 Steps

Based off Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 classic film, this two-time Tony Award-winning show has long been a staple on London's West End and is coming to Calgary courtesy Vertigo TheatreThe story has comedy, romance and plenty of characters to keep you entertained when it runs from Nov. 11 to Dec. 16.

Charlotte's Web

Looking for a family show for the holidays? E.B. White's children's classic about the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and spider called Charlotte is coming to town. The music-filled show, which runs Nov. 21 to Dec. 31, follows the heartwarming journey of the unusual friendship and is recommended for ages five and up.

The best part of many of these productions is that they are centrally located in Calgary's downtown, which means you're just a hop away from any number of delicious Calgary restaurants. And if you can't catch any of these shows, don't fret – 2018 productions are just around the corner.
