I normally go to Richmond, Vancouver once every 6 to 8 months to get my haircut because there is an award-winning hair stylist there with whom I only trust my hair. However, because going to the mainland for a haircut is pretty expensive, especially combined with the ferry fare, I decided to save some money and buy a Groupon for a shampoo, cut and style for $29 (normally up to a $65 value) at The Hive. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it, not even for $29. The hairstylist was friendly but as soon as she began to wash my hair, I knew I was in for a bad haircut. First of all, she didn't wait until the water was warm enough before soaking my hair and she never asked me if I was ok with the temperature of the water. Then, when it came time to cut my hair, she tried her best to do exactly what I wanted but I could tell by the way she handled the scissors that she just didn't have the skill of an experienced professional hair stylist. Frankly, when I looked around the hair salon at 2 or 3 other customers to see how their hair styles turned out, the impression that I got was that many of the hair stylists at The Hive lacked skill, experience and talent. Needless to say, I was not satisfied with my haircut. From now on, I will just save my money to go to Richmond to see my usual hair stylist, who, by the way, only charges $50 for the same service offered by The Hive.
